Harold P. Freeman Patient Navigation Training Institute
The Amgen Foundation has given a generous donation of $2.5 million over three years to establish the Harold P. Freeman Patient Navigation Training Institute.  Many cancer patients, especially those in low-income and underserved populations face barriers in accessing quality health care.  Patient navigation programs at cancer centers across the country are essential in helping cancer patients navigate through the health care system.

The Patient Navigation Training Institute, named after Dr. Harold P. Freeman – an internationally recognized authority on the interrelationship of race, poverty and cancer – will establish a national standard for the important work of patient navigators, including a comprehensive training curriculum needed to develop and implement patient navigation programs.  In addition, to ensure that health care facilities which serve medically underserved communities across the country have full access to the training, the Institute will selectively award grants to cover tuition, travel and food expenses.
