The 2015 Green Rankings are based on 2013 data, and are developed using eight indicators that assess and measure the environmental performance of the world’s largest publicly-traded companies. The project, developed in partnership with sustainability investment specialists Corporate Knights Capital and HIP (Human Impact + Profit), includes two separate rankings. The U.S. 500 ranks the 500 largest publicly-traded companies in the United States by market capitalization, while the Global 500 looks at the 500 largest publicly-traded companies globally by market capitalization as determined by Bloomberg.
The performance indicators used were:
- Energy Productivity
- Combined Greenhouse Gas Productivity
- Combined Water Productivity
- Combined Waste Productivity
- Green Revenue Score
- Sustainability Pay Link
- Sustainability Board Committee
- Audited Environmental Metrics
This new recognition is the latest in a series of accolades Amgen has received for sustainability performance. In 2014 the company was named to the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index for the first time; the U.S. Green Building Council recognized our building design strategy by certifying our innovative drug product research center in Thousand Oaks at the highest level—LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum; and the Association of Energy Engineers recognized Amgen’s energy management strategy with its top honor, the Corporate Energy Management Award. More recently, Amgen Rhode Island (ARI) was recognized with the Region I Energy Project of the Year award by the Association of Energy Engineers. ARI won top honors by implementing the GMP Cleanroom Air Change Rate Reduction Project, which will serve as a model for the industry.
